Sir Chauvelin looks to give Goldie fourth victory in Braveheart Handicap

- By GORDON BROWN

Jim Goldie bids for a fourth success in the feature race at Hamilton Park’s opening evening meeting of the season tonight.

His two-time winner Sir Chauvelin is in the line-up for the £30,000 Palmaris Services Braveheart Handicap, an event the up law mo or trainer has also won in the past with The glasgow warrior.

Goldie said: “He’s ten now but he’s holding his form well and he won three times on the allweather during the winter. He’s a full brother to Euchen Glen, who goes to Sandown later this month next to try and win the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes again so hopefully he’ll do well back on turf too.”

There is little at the head of the betting between Tribal Art and Far ham with the former already coming a close second at the Lanarkshire course 13 days ago in the button hook handicap for Mark and Charlie Johnston.

Farham, trained by John Butler, won the prestigious November Handicap at Doncaster last season and is just the second Hamilton Park runner for his Newmarket handler.

Leading track trainer Keith Dalgleish won the 2021 Braveheart Stakes with Alright Sunshine and he is represented by Heights Of Abraham. Scotland’s top jumps trainer Lucinda Russell, who has one course win to her name, saddles Ballyare in the Hamilton Palmaris Hire Services William Wallace Handicap.

Rachael Blackmore was full of praise for Perth yesterday after she came second on Brave Way, her first ride at the Scone track on sold out edinburgh gin Ladies Day.

The Grand National and Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning jockey said :“it’ s a lovely, fair and flat track and the ground was nice for this time of year. There is great atmosphere and a nice long galloping straight-it’ s just a shame id idn’ t finish a place closer and be in the winners’ enclo sure!” Brave Way was beaten eight lengths by Champagnesuperover in the DM Hall 125th Anniversary Novices’ Chase and winning trainer Olly Murphy said: “He’s a lovely prospect and we will put him away now for next season. It was a good effort under the penalty and he was conceding nearly a stone to the runner-up.”

Lanarkshire permit-holder Andrew Hamilton struck in the Edinburgh Gin Raspberry Handicap Chase with Bill Shanahan-ridden If Not For Dylan.

Shanahan said: “He was always travelling for me and even when the front two went clear in the straight I knew we’d get there.”

Meanwhile, Stradivarius is worth taking on with Max Vega in today’s Paddy Power Yorkshire Cup.

Now an eight-year-old, Stradivarius has been a great servant to the sport and a terrific advert for john and th a dy gosd en, but the baton appeared to have been passed on last year with Trueshan now the preeminent staying force.

Alan King's charge sidesteps this York contest due to quick ground and while Dermot Weld's dual Irish St Leger winner Search For A Song adds another dimension, she is certainly not unbeatable.

That leaves max vega as a candidate to spring something of a surprise for ralph beckett, with race fitness on his side.
