#EUROVISION

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra won the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday, with the UK’S Sam Ryder coming in second.

@sdfpk asked: “Can Ukraine afford to host it next year?”

@naskaly replied: “Could the UK?”

@gwen632 tweeted: “Why bother this year if it was going to be handed to Ukraine on a plate? I wouldn’t want to win with sympathy vote.”

@georgewalker18 said: “UK won, sympathy votes shouldn't count.”

@marcwalsh replied: “There were no sympathy votes, only votes of solidarity – that’s what #Eurovision is all about.”

@H1ghberrt said: “If you're getting mad about Ukraine winning a singing contest, you might need to reevaluate your priorities.”

@sophie_warmby said: “I’m sorry but as a UK citizen, we were robbed of our chances. @Samrydermusic is way more talented than Ukraine but the voting is getting ridiculous, it has now become political and not focusing on the actual music, which is what the contest is all about.”

@jleekens tweeted: “So before everyone starts saying it's all political: you've said for many years that it's all political and that you'd never do well and here you are with second place; please keep down with the 'political' talk, you might be wrong here too.”

@CEAK said: “Really he was the best, people obviously had to support Ukraine 100% right now, Sam has the 100% right attitude of what Eurovision is really all about + his song + performance were ace! We'll hear loads of him + his music going forward, what a great guy!”

@featherfusions wrote: “Everyone kicking off about Ukraine’s public vote but not mentioning that we didn’t do that well in that part anyway. Serbia would have won from that. Still fabulous that professional judges chose UK and Europe showed solidarity, as expected, with Ukraine.”

@Kaianders wrote: “I’m a Brit who isn’t often proud of our country (at least in the last few years) I am so proud of the UK tonight! We gave Ukraine 12 points and they gave us theirs. Politics or not, we’re united against Russia. And remember, if we won, it’s our tax money used to host anyway.”

@Jessicalthn said: “Goes to show that Europe doesn't hate the UK; send good songs and we will vote for it.”
