Labour's Ed Miliband told Chancellor Rishi Sunak in the House of Commons to “swallow your pride and get on with” introducing a windfall tax on energy companies.

@Alkerino remarked: “Always liked Ed. He should run for PM one day.”

@fourspeedbox said: “Sunak is waiting for Q2 profits to be announced. If he does it now there will be a clamour to do it again when the Q2 profits come out.”

@faisal_iil posted: “Ed Milliband is really impressing me recently. First his attack on Johnson and now on Sunak. He’s doing the leader’s job and holding the government to account.”

@vita_quest commented: “Always enjoy seeing Miliband at the dispatch box, he's highly entertaining and sassy. Shame he never made it into Number 10, he'd have been a good PM.”

@joan_ant192 suggested: “What's he waiting for is for us to be nearer a general election. You can't put out your pre-election bribes too early.”

@Unclebobbings said: “If the price of something is too high how does levying massive taxes on the sector help? What happens once that money is gone and prices rise again? If Ed is right on climate change he wants billions spenr on renewables – how could that happen after this?” @bpusability added: “And there, but for a bacon sandwich, goes a fine Prime Minister.”

#LIZTRUSS

Liz Truss has announced plans to suspend parts of the Northern Ireland Protocol. The Foreign Secretary said the UK Government would bring forward changes unless an agreement could be reached.

@Bayjayzus warned: “Prepare for a trade war with the EU. If you think supermarket shelves are empty now, you ain't seen nothing yet!”

@jamesstuartwood asked: “I thought the Brexit deal people voted for and was negotiated by Johnson was ‘oven ready’?”

@Mmillennial87 posted: “So they won an election on a deal they described as ‘oven ready’ and brilliant yet are now saying it’s rubbish and needs amending? And people still support these charlatans?”

@glum_gary commented: “The agreement allows for amendment despite all the remainers crying foul play. The EU will back down at the last minute.”
