The Metropolitan Police announced that the investigation into lockdown breaches in Downing Street and Whitehall is complete, with 126 referrals for fixed penalty notices made for a series of lockdown breaches at the centre of government.

@onthecrestof wrote: “They are all in it together, as thick as thieves.”

@finstumpf tweeted: “Surely it’s not about fines or reports. It’s about the fitness of @Conservatives to govern. The answer for now is a resounding ‘no’. Surely politics should be about more than power. It should be about improving the lot of those you govern. Over the long term.”

@Dobbo761 added: “See how the by-elections go in June. Still potential for Sue Gray or civil servants to release some photos."

@disp_hero25 wrote: “The Tories simply cannot win next time with Johnson in charge. The country has made up its mind on him no matter how many FPNS he did or didn’t get. Who wants to take over, though, knowing they will likely lose the next election no matter how much ‘change’ they promise.”

@Lassielmr sai: “Yup, self preservation of the Tory party. There is no identifiable replacement, but if polls tank in coming months I think there will be signs to replace before the next election.”

@anniebea56 wrote: “If Boris is the best they’ve got then it doesn’t say much for the rest of the Tory MPS.”

@sci_sjshaw tweeted: “Wonder how all of this will sit with the public – throwing his juniors under the bus whilst Boris walks away from it all unscathed (again). Definite sense of entitlement and unfairness from No 10."

@crica50 said: “Lets hope the Sue Grey report tips it over the edge!”

@dr_donothing tweeted: “Johnson is now the Opposition's greatest asset. They must nurture his premiership until an election defeat is secured in late 2024 or earlier. Tactical voting followed by the intro of PR could ensure that, from 2025, the UK need never suffer these goons unrestrained again."

@proudgranny24 wrote: “Boris Johnson has so eviscerated the Tory party that there are now not enough MPS of the calibre needed to see that he is an electoral liability. Allowing him to fester on is perfect territory on which @ Uklabour prepare for next election. Let Johnson stay."
