You may not have heard of nilgai before, but if you tune into the second episode of the series, you’ll find out a lot about them. They’re Asia’s largest antelope breed and Jemima, a member of Knowsley’s 16-strong herd, is about to give birth. She immediately bonds with her new calf, but when a second appears, she initially ignores it, and keeper Matt faces an anxious wait to see if Jemima will eventually care for the critter. Meanwhile, the wolf pack is causing consternation thanks to a bullying male; the baboon troop are fighting too, but it’s love, not war, that everyone hopes a pair of rare Amur tigers will be making soon.
