◆ Ibrox boss reveals he took Cantwell off at half-time due to ‘small muscle injury’

-

Rangers manager Philippe Clement revealed Todd Cantwell was replaced at half-time in the 3-0 win over Hibs due to injury. The midfielder had scored his side's second goal with a stunning strike just seconds before the interval but did not reemerge after the break, his place taken by the returning Tom Lawrence. Asked afterwards if Cantwell was a planned substitution, Clement said: "That was not sure yet. But he had a small muscle injury and we don't want to take a risk with players. "If there are really hungry ones on the bench, and show in training that they are ready, then somebody else steps in who does a good job for the team, like Tom did in the second half. "That's been our strength in the last few months. Whoever is playing in whatever position everybody is doing a job for the team. That's a really important thing with all the games we have to play that we can have rotation in the squad because it is impossible to play 90 minutes every three days with the same players." Clement was pleased with the "total domination" of the second half but admitted he had concerns about his team's performance prior to the opening goal scored by Ridvan Yilmaz on the half hour mark. "I was not pleased about a few things and we talked about that at half-time, about our positioning, tempo and aggression. That's why half-time is always useful to speak to the team and show them images. "[After that] we had total domination and we were never in trouble. It's pleasing and it's what I want to see more from my team to dominate in that way." Hibs manager Nick Montgomery disputed the assessment that the scoreline was a fair reflection on the game. "I don't think so," he said. "I don't think it was a 3-0 game. It became a 3-0 game because we missed massive moments in the game. We had two one-on-ones with the goalkeeper at 2-0 that could have been 2-2. Did we deserve anything out of the game? No, we didn't. "Look at the situation we're in right now. It's a difficult period for the club and for me as a manager picking a team knowing we've got nine or 10 first-team boys not available at the moment."
