Brendan Rodgers declared his delight after “absolute rock” Cameron Carter-vickers ended speculation about his future by signing a new five-and-ahalf-year contract with Celtic.

The 26-year-old American international has become a key player since Ange Postecoglou brought him to Celtic in 2021, initially on a season-long loan from Tottenham before the move was made permanent the following year.

Carter-vickers, whose initial deal was due to expire in 2026, has been linked with various club son the back of his impressive form over his first two-and a-half years at park head, but he has now committed himself to the cinch Premiership champions until 2029.

“This is great news for us all that Cameron has extended his contract with the club,” manager Rodgers told the Celtic website.

“He has been an absolute rock for us since he joined the club and has played to such a high standard so regularly, week in, week out.

“He has been such a pillar of strength in our defence and a real leader in the team – I know he is held in such high regard, too, by his team-mates.

“His qualities as a player, his personality and his absolute commitment to the game make him a real joy to work with.

"I know Cam loves the club and the city and really has made Celtic his home and we are delighted to have him here with us. There has been a lot of talk about the interest in him from elsewhere, but all he has done is get on with his football, decide where he wants to be and we are delighted that he sees his future at Celtic.”

Carter-vickers, who is currently out with a hamstring injury, is intent on adding to his trophy haul at celtic park in the years ahead.

“I am really delighted to sign this new contract with Celtic,” said the defender. “I have loved everything about the club from day one and I am so pleased to have been part of some real successfultimes across the last few years. We all know the love and passion our fans have for the club, there is nothing better than playing at a packed Celtic Park and I am delighted to be playing my football here. I have really enjoyed working with the manager, the staff and great team-mates and we will all be doing everything we can to bring our fans more and more success over the next few years.” Meanwhile, rodgers says Lie lA bad a is “a real integral part” of his plans and won’t let him leave the club in this window.

The conflict in his homeland has left the Israeli in a difficult position given the pro-palestinian stance adopted by many Celtic fans. Clubs in England, France and Germany have all been credited with an interest in signing the 22-year-old but Rodgers is adamant the wing er won’t be going anywhere.

“There’ s nothing on li el ,” said the manager who revealed there had been no firm inquiries as to Abada’s availability. “He’s a real integral part of what we want to do here. So, I won’t be in a hurry to want to lose that.”
