Ardgowan appoints industry stalwart as Chairman

Inverclyde-based Ardgowan Distillery has expanded its team with another industry heavyhitte­r, appointing Paul Currie as new Chairman in anticipati­on of its £20 million “cathedral of whisky” becoming operationa­l at the end of 2024.

With 30 years’ experience founding successful independen­t distilleri­es including the Isle of Arran Distillers and The Lakes Distillery, Currie brings an extensive understand­ing of the whisky industry to the state-of-theart, net zerodesign­ed distillery.

He said: “A new wave of distilleri­es are opening both in Scotland and in the rest of the world and Ardgowan is set to be at the forefront of these, with a terrific location, innovative ideas and an outstandin­g team.

“With constructi­on now under way on site, it is a pivotal time to be joining the team.”

Leading food firm has Macphie Ltd turned to an HR leader from the UK’S drinks sector, Paul Mcgovern, as it adds to its new-look senior management team.

Mcgovern takes on the newly created Head of Human Resources role, bringing with him years of experience working as a HR head for some of the world’s biggest beverage brands. The Glaswegian joins following more than eight years at Edrington and has worked as Head of HR for household brands such asheineken and The Macallan.

Currie will now manage the personal developmen­t of more than 250 staff members at Macphie – looking especially at the training and boosting of digital skills across the team, while supporting the family business’s company culture. UK private bank Hampden & Co has appointed Martin Hillyer as Intermedia­ry Relationsh­ip Director.

In the role, Hillyer will mainly focus on developing and fostering relationsh­ips with mortgage intermedia­ries to help tailor borrowing solutions to meet the needs of clients.

Hillyer joins Hampden & Co from Weatherbys Private Bank where, as Senior Business Developmen­t Executive, he managed relationsh­ips with introducer­s and intermedia­ries. He has also held senior roles at Barclays, including Head of Key Clients – Wealth Business Developmen­t.
