St Mary’s Music School, Scotland’s specialist music school, provides a world-class music and academic education to musically gifted children aged 9-19.

As one of the five Governmentsupported specialist music schools in the UK – and the only one in Scotland – our inspiring and inclusive environment enables young musicians to reach their fullest potential both in music and academically.

Entry to St Mary’s Music School is based on musical ability and potential. Our commitment to accessibility is supported by the Scottish Government Aided Places Scheme, which offers funding for day and boarding pupils.

We welcome young instrumentalists, singers and composers from Scotland, the UK, and internationally, fostering a vibrant and diverse community.

St Mary’s Music School educates the Choristers of St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, where a five-year programme has been specifically designed for children from P5 to S2 who love to sing.

St Mary’s Music School has recently launched two vocal programmes – the only ones of their kind in Scotland and the North of England which focus on age-appropriate vocal development – The Changing Voices Programme, and the Senior Vocal Programme.

Our school has a distinctive approach which seamlessly integrates musical training with a full academic curriculum. This dual focus ensures our pupils receive a well-rounded education, preparing them for a future of limitless possibilities.

Our dedicated staff and personalised support enable pupils to achieve outstanding academic results and gain access to leading universities and conservatories in the UK and internationally.

Small class sizes, bespoke timetables, and a strong focus on individual achievements promote academic success. In 2023, our pupils achieved exceptional academic results, with a 99 per cent pass rate across all levels, and more than 88 per cent receiving Grade-as across all SQA examinations.

At St Mary’s Music School, we understand the importance of early musical experiences. Our Saturday music classes are offered during term time and introduce children aged 4-12 to the wonders of music, fostering a lifelong love for the art form.
