West Lothian College marks special week

◆ Livingston-based institution invites local employers to learn more about its innovations in Scottish Apprenticeship Week

-

West Lothian College is hosting an event for local employers during Scottish Apprenticeship Week over the coming days.

The college is a strong supporter of Modern Apprenticeships and supports many private and public employers, with more than 300 apprentices in training at any one time.

Apprenticeships delivered by the college include carpentry and joinery, engineering, electrical installation, business, and care.

In February, the college secured a contract from Skills Development Scotland to deliver an additional 175 apprenticeships to employers in the care and childcare sectors.

The theme of this year’s Scottish Apprenticeship

Week is Skills Generation. From today until Friday, the college will highlight the role apprenticeships play in shaping Scotland’s workforce.

This year’s campaign will show how apprenticeships offer routes for personal and professional growth, deliver skills vital for current and future jobs, and contribute to growing Scotland’s economy.

An event at the college’s new Skills Centre for Sustainable Living tomorrow will give attendees information about apprenticeships and opportunities to find out about the college’s innovative work on areas, such as renewable energy and sustainable construction.

West Lothian College apprenticeships manager, Louise Macdonald says:

“A critical role of the college is to help build a skilled workforce in West Lothian and further afield. Apprenticeships are an important part of how we do that. I would encourage employers to come along to our event during Scottish Apprenticeship Week to find out how to upskill existing staff or create a new generation of skilled workers.”
