United to the fore after Moult’s first-half goal seals Cappielow victory

Louis Moult’s first-half goal was enough for Dundee United to move four points clear at the top of the cinch Championsh­ip with a 1-0 win at Morton

United had already seen Kevin Holt’s header clawed off the line by Morton goalkeeper Ryan Mullen when Moult put them ahead in the 26th minute, stabbing in Tony Watt’s cross at the back post. Moult had another chance at the back post 11 minutes into the second half but this time he sliced his shot and Mullen was able to gather.

Morton had a late shout for a penalty when Michael Garrity beat two defenders to run into the box before going down, but nothing was given.

The result allowed Airdrieoni­ans to close the gap to the fourth-placed Greenock side in the race for the play-offs with a 2-0 win at Dunfermlin­e. Both goals were scored by former Pars players, with Nikolay Todorov opening the scoring with a header on 16 minutes before Gabby Mcgill added a second with a shot on the spin on the hour mark.

In League One, Falkirk continued their march towards the title with a 1-0 win away to Cove Rangers. Calvin Miller struck the decisive goal seven minutes from time to move the Bairns 17 points clear of Hamilton in second place.

Stranraer returned to winning ways with a 5-0 victory against Dumbarton in League Two.

Stranraer took the lead from Ryan Blair’s own goal, and Matty Grant and Dylan Forrest struck in quick succession before Ben Armour gave them a 4-0 lead going into the break. Deryn Lang added a fifth at the death for the Blues to go seventh in the table.

Declan Byrne’s late penalty salvaged a point for Bonnyrigg Rose as they drew 2-2 with Spartans.

Marcmcnult­yscoredhis­first goal for Spartans to give them the lead and Keiran Mcgachie chipped the ball home to level. Blair Henderson put Spartans back in front from the penalty spot and, although the Rose were reduced to ten when Neil Martyniuk was dismissed, Byrne scored his penalty in the fifth minute of added time.
