The BBC’S flagship cookery programme is turning 20 this year, so expect the latest run to be something very special indeed. As ever, John Torode and Gregg Wallace are the judges, and they’ll be welcoming 58 of the UK’S most passionate amateur cooks to the infamous kitchen. The first six of them arrive this evening, with only the four who win exclusive Masterchef aprons bagging a place in the quarter-finals. First up, the sextet face a brand new challenge. Entitled Basic to Brilliant, it involves taking an ordinary, everyday ingredient and making it the centre of something spectacula­r.
