Sunday Soldier marches on at Musselburgh with fifth win on the trot

- Gordon Brown

Sunday Soldier extended her winning sequence to five when bagging the Go North Lady Buttons Mares’ Hurdle Series Final at Musselburgh.

Partnered by regular jockey Richie Mclernon, the 5/1 chance saw off Similar Story by half a length.

David Killahena, who trains the winner in partnership with Graeme Mcpherson, said: “She shows us very little at home but she’ s done nothing but improve on the track. The different tactics to drop her in here were due to the longer trip which we always felt she required and she saw it out well.”

Golden Maverick got going late on to land the Go North Grey Bomber Juvenile Hurdle Series final for jamie snow den and Gavin Sheehan.

“He’s a class horse from the Flat and I just kept him at it and he kept picking up for me,” said jockey Sheehan. “A lot of good horses can get beaten around here and, in the end, he’s done it with his ears pricked.”

Meanwhile, Intinso is backed to continue his resurgence in the Virgin Bet Every Saturday Money Back Rosebery Handicap at Kempton this afternoon.

John and Thady Gosden’s inmate finished out of the places at York’s Ebor Festival in August and was subsequently gelded. Intinso made his first start since at Wolverhampton three weeks ago and while he went off at prohibitive odds to make a successful comeback, it was still hard not to be impressed by the way he swept his rivals aside, despite racing keenly.

If he is a little more tractable dropping back slightly in trip for this £100,000 prize, there may still be some mileage in his revised mark of 98 and he is expected to go close.

Hopes of any turf racing taking place in britain today hinge on a second precautionary inspection at Uttoxeter at 7.30am. The card at stratford andk el so’ s premier Race day were abandoned due to waterlogging.
