Beef Expo event returns to J36

BEEF Expo, the National Beef Associatio­n’s event, returns next week with a cracking display of cattle, trade stands and seminar speakers at North West Auctions, J36, Rural Auction Centre, Crooklands, near Kendal.

The event, set to take place on April 27, is a oneday exhibition showcase of the British beef industry and promises to o er invaluable insights into the future of beef farming, so it is hoped that as many as possible will be able to attend.

Timed to coincide with British Beef Week, this year’s Beef Expo has a record number of more than 100 trade exhibitors and 13 breed societies. They will highlight the latest research developmen­ts, technology and innovation, giving beef farmers the chance to view demonstrat­ions, and discuss potential options and ideas to improve productivi­ty and e€ciency at home. Throughout the day, ScotEID will be giving a demonstrat­ion on ultra high frequency (UHF) tag types in Ring One.

One of the highlights is always the National Beef Associatio­n commercial cattle show and this year in the region of 100 head of some of the UK’s best beef animals will be presented.

This year’s judges include Northampto­nshire’s Frank Page who will be selecting the winners in the native and continenta­l classes and supreme championsh­ips, while Jonathan Lyon,

Lincolnshi­re, will place the baby beef classes and young handlers.

The South Devon cattle Society will also hold its performanc­e championsh­ip as part of the event.

In the lead-up to the event, New Zealand livestock handling system Te Pari UK is running a competitio­n to win a Te Pari Lenta Crush worth £11,950 plus VAT. This livestock handling ‘all-rounder’ provides a safe, e€cient, and secure working environmen­t for both user and beast on a multitude of operations across the country.

National Beef Associatio­n chief executive Neil Shand said: “The British beef industry has very deep roots in this part of the world, and we are absolutely delighted to be returning to Cumbria. The industry is very resilient and highly progressiv­e, and this event will raise issues and answer questions on how we ensure the industry is future fit.
