City extend their winning run with injury-time Iheanacho strike

-

MANCHESTER CITY recorded their fifth league win of the season with an injury-time winner from Kelechi Iheanacho as they beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park.

Afterwards, City boss Manuel Pellegrini said: ‘He’s (Iheanacho) one of the reasons I didn’t bring another striker in when we sold Edin Dzeko in the summer.

‘He’s an important player for us and will be a very important player for the future. He deserves that chance. It was important he took it.’

There was a concern for Pellegrini’s side as Sergio Aguero limped off with a knee knock, with Tuesday’s Champions League tie against Juventus in mind. However, the Argentine striker calmed fears, later saying on Twitter: ‘I got a hard hit but it doesn’t seem to be serious.’

Arsenal kept pace with the league leaders with a comfortable 2-0 win at the Emirates over Stoke City.

The home side could have been 3-0 ahead before half-time, but an inspired performance by Stoke keeper Jack Butland kept his men in the match.

Theo Walcott eventually broke the deadlock after 31 minutes, before substitute Olivier Giroud secured the win with five minutes remaining.

Alex Neil’s Norwich won the battle of the newly-promoted sides as they beat Bournemouth 3-1 at Carrow Road.

Cameron Jerome opened the scoring 10 minutes before the break before Wes Hoolahan doubled the home side’s lead with a fantastic effort from the edge of the Bournemouth penalty area seven minutes into the second half.

Matt Jarvis added a third on his debut for the Canaries before Steve Cook headed home a late consolation for Eddie Howe’s men.

Watford earned their first win of the season against Swansea at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets netted the winner through Odion Jude Ighalo and, despite having Valon Behrami sent off for a stamp on Andre Ayew in the 64th minute, they were able to hold on for all three points against a Swansea side who had taken eight points from their first four games of the season, including a 2-1 win over Manchester United.

Saido Berahino returned to West Brom as a second-half substitute in their 0-0 draw with Southampton at the Hawthorns.
