Swans are downed as Gunners marchon

-

ARSENAL recorded their fifth league win in a row with a 3-0 victory over Swansea in South Wales. The result moves Arsene Wenger’s men level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table as Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and Joel Campbell sunk Garry Monk’s struggling Swans. Wenger said: ‘Swansea took six points off us last year and that shows we’ve moved forward. The second half we were a different team. ‘After we scored the first goal, it was all us and there was only one winner on the pitch.’ Swansea could have gone in at half-time ahead but Bafetimbi Gomis squandered the best chance of the first period. The away side came out fighting after the break and it took only four minutes for Giroud to head Arsenal in front before Koscielny made the most of an error from Swans keeper Lukasz Fabianski and Campbell secured all three points. Leicester moved up to third in the league as they came from behind to beat West Brom 3-2 at the Hawthorns. Salomon Rondon had put the Baggies in front before Riyad Mahrez netted a double and Jamie Vardy rounded off the scoring for the away side, firing in his eighth goal in as many games to join Ruud van Nistelrooy and Daniel Sturridge in achieving the feat. Of Vardy, West Brom boss Tony Pulis said: ‘In him, Leicester have an exceptional player. His pace frightened us all afternoon.’ Rickie Lambert scored a late consolation for the home side from the spot as Claudio Ranieri’s men remained unbeaten away this season. Watford beat high-flying West Ham 2-0 at Vicarage Road as a double from Odion Ighalo secured just their second home win this term and took his tally to six for the season — making him Watford’s joint-highest top-flight scorer. It ended goalless at St James’ Park in the match between Newcastle and Stoke. Jack Butland kept the Magpies at bay with a string of saves to enhance his England credentials.
