FIGHTER

FUN IN THE SUN BEFORE FATE STRUCK

-

Games, was fit enough to be flown to Bangkok, Thailand.

There, she received another operation on her brain and doctors fitted feeding and breathing tubes. She was returned to Scotland by private air ambulance on June 13.

Mrs Inglis said: ‘The flight really was terrifying. I was able to see her and watch her all the time.

‘She was hooked up to all these machines and every time they beeped my heart missed a beat.’

At Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital, Miss Inglis was later brought out of the coma that had been induced for five weeks.

She has now revealed the confusion and fear she felt, saying: ‘My first memory or thought when I woke up was, “Where am I?” I first saw my mum and dad and they explained to me what had happened. I couldn’t get my head around all that had happened to me, and me having no memory of anything was pretty scary.’

But she has since surpassed expectations.

Her mother said: ‘Day to day she’s doing really well, she’s up, she’s walking on her own now. She gets tired very easily but she’s always pushing herself.

‘Physically, she’s doing miracles. She’s recovering remarkably, she’s way ahead both mentally and physically but she has a long way to go.

‘Sometimes her judgment and reasoning are really clear but other times they’re not, so there is a lot of cognitive work to be done and a lot of occupational therapy. It’s been just over five weeks since we touched down. She came with wires and cables, if somebody had said to me she would be up and walking about by now, I would have thought, what planet do you live on?’

Now being rehabilitated at Cameron Hospital in Windygates, Fife, Miss Inglis can manage short trips to the beach and even celebrated her sister Stacey’s 26th birthday at favourite restaurant Nando’s.

It is hoped she can return to the Highlands in the next fortnight and the Disney fan, whose story is set to be told on ITV’s Real People on Thursday, also aims to be well enough to visit Florida in a holiday postponed from June.

She said: ‘I am looking forward to catching up with family and close friends, one of whom asked me to be her bridesmaid when I was out in Vietnam.

‘I also have a holiday planned for September with my family, so this is a big goal to make sure I am fit.

‘I was overwhelmed by the support and money raised to help get me home and get better. I have to thank my good friend Khalid for setting up the gofundme page.

‘I also have to thank my family, friends, the media and everyone who donated and shared the page.

‘Without all that support I am not sure I would be where I am today.’
