British Gran Prix!

- By Kieran Mathiak

WITH a top speed of 8mph, it’s hardly Formula 1. But yesterday Arbroath’s Low Common was transformed into a racetrack – for mobility scooters.

Scotland’s first Mobility Scooter Wacky Races in the Angus town saw drivers compete in a series of time trials and over obstacle courses.

The unconventional event was organised to highlight the benefits a scooter can have for people who feel trapped by disability or age.

Organiser Donald Downie said: ‘Many disabled people are trapped in their homes.

‘This is a great local event for disabled people and the only one of its kind in Scotland.’
