That is a laydee, David...

(Yeah, but no buts: is she your girlfriend?)

SITTING as close as decency allows, Kate Beckinsale and David Walliams put on an amorous performance outside London’s most photographed restaurant on Friday night – sparking rumours that their long friendship has blossomed into romance.

The Little Britain star has always admitted to finding the Hollywood actress attractive – but his displays of affection were never returned. Now, it seems, his luck is finally in.

Kate, 42, giggled her way through dinner at Scott’s in Mayfair – the restaurant where Charles Saatchi was notoriously photographed in 2013 with his hands around the throat of his then wife Nigella Lawson.

David beamed as his jokes elicited howls of laughter from Kate, who looked lovingly into his eyes, often leaning in close and playfully grasping his arm. As they left, Kate, wearing a sexy jumpsuit, continued to grip David’s arm while gazing adoringly at him.

The pair have been pals for more than 20 years. They reignited their friendship after David split from supermodel Lara Stone in 2015 after five years of marriage, and Kate’s 11-year marriage to film director Len Wiseman ended around the same time.

Earlier this month, the actress posted a photograph of them together at Kate’s 21st birthday in 1994, with Walliams wearing a dress. As The Mail on Sunday revealed, she wrote, ‘He’s in a dress. I’m in leather pants. Not much has changed’ – but the post was later deleted.

In Little Britain, David famously played a transvestite who would insist ‘I’m a laydee’ alongside Matt Lucas, whose characters included the ‘chav’ Vicky Pollard with her catchphrase ‘Yeah but no but…’

David once cited ‘naughty and beautiful’ Kate as his ideal woman – but admitted she made him ‘turn to jelly’. A source close to the pair said: ‘They are just very close friends.’ Walliams’s spokesman declined to comment.
