Man dies in rip tide tragedy
A MAN has died and another is seriously ill in hospital after several swimmers were caught in a rip tide off the Norfolk coast yesterday.
Two men were pulled unconscious from the water by members of the public after getting into difficulties at Sea Palling, near Great Yarmouth.
A man aged 54 later died and a 26-year-old was airlifted to Norfolk and Norwich hospital.
Two other people – a 16-yearold boy and a man in his 20s – also struggled in the water but made it to shore.
The alarm was raised shortly before midday. Three land ambulances, two air ambulances, a rescue helicopter and three local coastguard teams took part in the operation.
