Max really is on top of the world

-

AS THE first Briton to win a gymnastic gold medal in Olympic history and bagging his second just hours later, Max Whitlock was clearly in high spirits.

But the 23-year-old gave the phrase ‘on top of the world’ a new meaning with an impressive stunt on the top of Rio’s Sugarloaf Mountain. Placing his hands on the railings, Whitlock fearlessly balanced his legs over the edge of the 1,300ft drop, below. He posted the dramatic picture to his Instagram followers – and it has been ‘liked’ almost 50,000 times.

Whitlock, who appeared unfazed by the vast drop below him, took home two gold medals this year – in floor and pommel horse. He won two bronze medals at the London Games four years ago.
