Fury at dentist who killed lion Cecil

-

AMERICAN dentist Walter Palmer sparked revulsion after killing Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe last year.

Palmer, 56, pictured, received death threats after it emerged he had shot the prized research animal with a bow and arrow. He is said to have paid $50,000 (£32,000) for the privilege but insisted he had obtained the correct permits.

Animal lovers were especially outraged that Cecil took 40 hours to die. Following an international campaign, Palmer confessed. He and his wife Tonette, 57, of Minnesota, went into hiding and spent thousands on personal security. Zimbabwean officials later abandoned moves to have him extradited, saying he had not broken the law.
