- By Riath Al-Samarrai

LUTALO MUHAMMAD has confirmed he will return to the sport for a third shot at taekwondo gold once he overcomes ‘one of the lowest points of my life’.

The British fighter came within one second of winning the 80kg title on Friday, only to lose to Cheick Sallah Cisse of Ivory Coast with the final kick of the final.

Muhammad, who won bronze at London 2012, collapsed into floods of tears at the dramatic, devastating change in fortune and stunned viewers with a heart-breaking interview on BBC about his missed chance.

But the 25-year-old is adamant he will attempt to qualify for Tokyo in 2020.

He said: ‘I will be back. I have taken a bronze and a silver and we know what is next.’

In his television interview he said: ‘I don’t want to cry but I am so sorry for the people that stayed up to watch. This is so hard.’
