OZIL INSPIRES GUNNERS TO MAIDEN WIN
ARSENAL recorded their first win of the season courtesy of a dazzling first-half display that blew London rivals Watford away.
Arsene Wenger’s men raced into a 3-0 lead in the opening 45 minutes thanks to a Santi Cazorla penalty and goals from Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
The hosts pulled one back through substitute Roberto Pereya after the break but Arsenal eased to a 3-1 success.
Wenger, who confirmed the signings of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez, hailed the influence of Ozil: ‘We want him to score goals as well as create them, so I’m very happy. It was a solid performance.’
Leicester also grabbed their first league triumph of the term with a 2-1 win at home to Swansea.
Jamie Vardy opened his account for the season and Wes Morgan volleyed home a second before Leroy Fer netted to set-up a nervy finish.
Elsewhere, Leighton Baines’ penalty that rebounded off Shay Given and into the net gave Everton a 1-0 victory over Stoke.
Southampton and Sunderland are still searching for their first league wins of the season after drawing 1-1.
Jermaine Defoe scored a penalty in the 80th minute but Jay Rodriguez levelled for the Saints late on.
Scott Dann’s last-gasp header earned Crystal Palace a point at home to Bournemouth. Josh King opened the scoring for Eddie Howe’s men.
