MORE AGONY FOR SHAW AS HE IS FORCED OUT OF SQUAD

- By Stephen Davies

LUKE SHAW suffered another setback yesterday when he was forced to pull out of England’s squad for today’s World Cup qualifier in Slovakia.

The 21-year-old left-back missed training yesterday and, after being assessed by England’s medical team, was sent back to Manchester United.

It is an untimely blow for Shaw, who has only just returned from a double leg break sustained 12 months ago.

He was replaced in training at St George’s Park by Arsenal’s Tafari Moore, who is part of the Under-20s set-up, and did not fly with the team.

The former Southampton defender, who was 18 when he won the first of his six England caps, has started the season well with Manchester United, although had not been due to start in Trnava, with Tottenham’s Danny Rose preferred at left-back.

Indeed, England’s team under new boss Sam Allardyce contains eight of those who flopped against Iceland to crash out of Euro 2016.

Joe Hart continues in goal and Rose is joined in defence by his Tottenham team-mate Kyle Walker, Gary Cahill and John Stones.

Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson will be the holding midfielders, as Raheem Sterling tries to build upon his excellent start to the season with Manchester City, alongside Adam Lallana in a creative role. Wayne Rooney is set to join Harry Kane up front.

United boss Jose Mourinho will hope Shaw’s withdrawal is merely precautionary as he prepares for his first Manchester derby on Saturday.

Mourinho already has concerns over Armenia skipper Henrik Mkhitaryan, who has returned to Old Trafford after limping out of Wednesday’s friendly defeat in the Czech Republic with a thigh injury.

Maroane Fellaini is already a doubt for the showdown with City after picking up a back injury in the 1-0 win at Hull.
