MYLES SPARKLES FOR BAIRNS AS UNITED ARE PUT TO THE SWORD

- By Fraser Clarke

FALKIRK manager Peter Houston was delighted after late Myles Hippolyte magic provided his side with all three points against Dundee United.

Hippolyte scored and then assisted in the final five minutes to steal the points in a tense affair at the Falkirk Stadium.

John Baird’s opener had been cancelled out by Tope Obadeyi and a scrappy second half only sparked into life in the final stages, when Hippolyte scored and then provided the cross for Lee Miller to seal the 3-1 victory with a late header.

Speaking of Hippolyte, Houston said: ‘This boy has got pace, he’s got dribbling ability, he’s strong and he’s good in the air.

‘I think he can play at a higher level than this. What Myles has to do is get consistency levels.’

United started brightly and almost took the lead after just two minutes but Simon Murray’s effort cracked back off the bar after he’d done well to work a shot with his back to goal.

They were made to rue early misses when Baird nodded Falkirk in front just five minutes later. Tom Taiwo’s brilliant cross from the right wing found Baird who rose well to power a head beyond Cammy Bell in the United goal.

The Bairns were inches away from doubling the advantage on 28 minutes but Bob McHugh’s header crashed back off the post for Bell to palm away.

The lively Obadeyi pulled United level on 32 minutes when he slid in at the back post to tap home from Nicky van der Velden’s low cross from the right flank.

As the game dragged on, Hippolyte decided to take proceedings by the scruff of the neck in the final stages.

Firstly, he converted James Craigen’s cross at the front post past Bell into the net on 87 minutes.

He turned provider just two minutes later, crossing for Lee Miller, who headed home.

United boss, Ray McKinnon said: ‘It was a sucker punch to lose the game at the end like that. I’d have been happy with a point.’
