Strike plan abandoned by doctors
A SERIES of controversial five-day strikes by junior doctors south of the Border was dramatically suspended last night.
Dr Ellen McCourt, chairman of the British Medical Association’s Junior Doctors Committee, said the decision to suspend the three strikes was taken following ‘feedback from doctors, patients and the public’.
The first of the three strikes, in which up to 50,000 medics would have refused to carry out any work, had been due to start in ten days, with others planned for November and December.
Dr McCourt, who has just overcome a challenge from rival medics unhappy at her leadership, said: ‘Patient safety is doctors’ primary concern.’
