Houston’s sloppy Bairns just can’t stop winning

- By Mark Guidi

FALKIRK made it four straight victories in the league but manager Peter Houston branded his players ‘sloppy’ and admitted his team didn’t deserve to win the game.

After a forgettable first 45 minutes, Ayr United had the bulk of play and Gary Harkins sent a header just wide and then Bairns’ keeper Danny Rogers made a stunning stop to deny Kevin Nisbet in the 61st minute.

The home team then scored with 11 minutes remaining when Myles Hippolyte’s long throw was met by the head of Daryll Meggatt. He tried to clear it but the ball looped over Greg Fleming and into the net. Substitute Lee Miller then scored in stoppage time when he rolled Meggatt inside the box and fired home.

Houston said: ‘We were poor and we got out of jail. We’ve glossed over it a bit with the second goal. I can’t be happy with that display.

‘However, with results elsewhere, it’s turned out a good weekend for us.’

Ayr boss Ian McCall was too dejected to face the media after the game and assistant boss Neil Scally said: ‘We didn’t deserve to lose. We were the better team.’
