Hull pay penalty as Milner makes hay for Liverpool

-

A JAMES MILNER spot-kick double helped Liverpool on their way to a 5-1 victory over 10-man Hull City at Anfield to lift the Reds to third in the table.

Adam Lallana had fired Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead in the 17th minute before Milner and Sadio Mane put the home side 3-0 up at the break following Ahmed Elmohamady’s red card.

David Meyler did get the Tigers on the scoresheet six minutes into the second half, only for Philippe Coutinho to restore Liverpool’s three-goal lead before Milner rounded off the scoring.

Klopp said: ‘It was a brilliant first half in all aspects. We didn’t give Hull the opportunity to create confidence.

‘It was wonderful to watch. All in all, really good.’

Everton’s unbeaten league start to the season came to an end with a 1-0 loss at Bournemouth.

Jack Wilshere struck the bar for the Cherries before Junior Stanislas hit the winner.

Pressure is rising on Sunderland boss David Moyes, meanwhile, after Sunderland blew a two-goal lead at the Stadium of Light to lose 3-2 to Crystal Palace.

A Jermain Defoe double had put the Black Cats on their way to a first league win under Moyes before Joe Ledley, James McArthur and Christian Benteke secured the three points for Palace.

Tottenham are now only one of two clubs in the Premier League still unbeaten — alongside Manchester City — after a 2-1 victory at Middlesbrough, Son Heung-Min netting twice before Ben Gibson’s consolation.

Tony Pulis returned to Stoke with West Brom and left with a 1-1 draw after Salomon Rondon cancelled out Joe Allen’s opener.
