Heather Watson says she has fully recovered from the illness that ended her US Open campaign after winning back-to-back matches yesterday to qualify for the Wuhan Open. She beat China’s Chang Liu 6-1, 0-6, 6-4 and then saw off American Samantha Crawford 7-6, 6-2 to set up a first-round meeting with training partner Madison Brengle.

Watson said the results of blood tests she has recently undergone have proved to be ‘fine’.
