Boyle outshone by his fiancée facing Bayern

- By Graeme Croser

TODAY’S visit of Dundee United may be the most hotly anticipated fixture of Hibernian’s Championship season but winger Martin Boyle admits it is only the second most important match in his household this week.

Boyle’s fiancée, Rachel Small, is preparing for Hibernian Ladies’ Champions League clash against Bayern Munich in midweek and the former Dundee man admits there are times when his partner’s on-field exploits put him in the shade.

‘I keep saying she has the bragging rights,’ laughed Boyle. ‘She says that I’ve played in Europe for Hibs but Champions League? She has upstaged me on that one.

‘Every time she scores a goal, she asks what I’ve done over the weekend. It’s a very competitive household but we spur each other on and go and support each other.

‘The boys will all go along and support them against Bayern but they just think it’s cool that my fiancée plays football.

‘Personally, I reckon it’s good to come home and watch

Match of the Day on a Saturday night with no complaints!’

Boyle admits he had a pretty poor record in Tayside derby matches but knows the United games could hold the key to Hibs’ promotion hopes.

‘United have had a sticky start but we know how life was when we came down,’ he said. ‘The game should be a cracker.’
