JAI HAPPY TO IGNORE TALK OF TRANSFERS

- By Fraser Mackie

JAI QUITONGO looks sure to net Morton a tidy transfer fee. In the meantime, the in-demand 19-year-old is confident he and the Championship club are profiting greatly from Jim Duffy’s shrewd guidance.

Hull City and Crystal Palace are among the top-flight clubs circling Quitongo (below). Their scouts are likely to have company at the national stadium for next week’s Betfred Cup semi-final against Aberdeen.

The attention is all new to the forward who scored in yesterday’s 5-0 win away to Queen of the South. He was let go by Hamilton and Aberdeen and without a club for five months before finding a home at Cappielow — and sensational scoring form in the League Cup.

Four of his six goals in 15 Morton appearances this season have come in the tournament, including against top-flight opposition in Kilmarnock and former club Accies.

With hype and Hampden dominating the landscape all of a sudden, Quitongo admits he’s grateful to have the experience of gaffer Duffy.

‘I think I’ve done all right to deal with that so far,’ said Quitongo of the transfer interest. ‘I don’t really think about it because my attitude is not to take anything for granted. It could change in a matter of seconds in football.

‘All I can do is work hard and see where that takes me.’
