Pochettino rues missed opportunity

-

LEICESTER picked up their first away point in the Premier League after holding Tottenham to a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.

Vincent Janssen opened the scoring from the penalty spot a minute before halftime for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

The Foxes levelled after 48 minutes through Ahmed Musa’s strike and the visitors held on to extend Claudio Ranieri’s unbeaten streak against Spurs to 11 matches.

Tottenham remain unbeaten after 10 Premier League games but sit fourth after drawing five of them and Pochettino was left to rue more dropped points.

‘I’m disappointed,’ he said. ‘We created chances. We dominated the game. But I am disappointed with the way we conceded.’

The Spurs boss is pleased with Dutch striker Janssen filling the void of the injured Harry Kane.

He added: ‘I am very happy with him. He is always improving.’

Elsewhere, goals from Gaston Ramirez and Stewart Downing helped Middlesbrough to a 2-0 win over Bournemouth.

Ramirez’s solo effort after 39 minutes and Downing’s strike from six yards out wrapped up a first win in eight matches for Boro.

Downing said: ‘We deserved it and we were more clinical. That was a big win and it will give us a lot of confidence.’

Meanwhile, Watford left it late to see off Hull City 1-0.

Daryl Janmaat’s delivery eight minutes from time was turned into his own net by Hull defender Michael Dawson.

The narrow victory lifts Watford up to seventh in the table and condemned the visitors to their sixth Premier League defeat in succession.

Dejected Hull boss Mike Phelan said: ‘It’s very hard to take. I’ve got a depressed dressing room after the effort they put into the game. It’s cruel.’
