RIP TPT. In the 1990s I came up with the title ‘Yah!’ for Tara Palmer-Tomkinson’s column as an It Girl in The Sunday Times, while the column alongside it, which I ghost-wrote for Meg Mathews, wife of Noel Gallagher, was called ‘Yeah!’

Meg was a sweetheart, failing to ever get my jokes but vetoing nothing, and yelling ‘b ***** off’ to the Oasis hardman who’d be wailing in the background: ‘Don’t let Liz write that!’

Tara was a different matter, already addicted to drugs, crying down the phone that she’d run out of money, meaning a messenger would be dispatched to her from Wapping, wielding wads of cash.

The media were party to her partying.
