WHAT THEY SAID

-

‘It’s messy and it’s a shock to me. Not a shock that the Rangers board had an uneasy relationship with Mark Warburton but the messy was it’s been done. Rangers like to do things very clear cut, very precise and this certainly is not.

‘They’re looking to try and get second place, trying to stop Celtic winning the Treble in the Scottish Cup. It does leave Rangers in a hole at the moment.’ TERRY BUTCHER ‘As far as I’m concerned, if you come out and say to the Rangers board that you want to be released then you don’t want to be there. So the club is quite within its rights to say “fine” if you don’t want to be here you are released.

‘I thought Mark was a fighter and would want to stay there to the end. I thought he was going to be there to get Rangers back to where they belong but that’s not going to be the case.’ DEREK JOHNSTONE

‘Fans tend to make these decisions for boards. The defeat to Hearts has a major bearing on the way things were going.

‘They dropped into third position and I think the fans, board, club are looking for a better return.

‘Recruitment at the club has been poor. There’s been a mix of signings who have not made the impact they were expected to.’ NEIL McCANN ‘The job was too big for Mark Warburton. There hasn’t been a Magic Hat in recent weeks — it’s been a dunce’s hat.

‘It’s been a sorry, disastrous season and he hasn’t been helped by the lack of promised investment from Dave King.’ CHRIS SUTTON

to3 ‘Rangers is a fantastic club and I’m sorry see their current position. The gap to Celtic is massive at the moment.

‘In terms of me being linked, it is very nice. But it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to say any more than that.

‘I’m taking it easy just now and my plan is to get back into coaching in the summer.’ FRANK de BOER
