De Boer wants to get back in the game

- By Fraser Mackie

FRANK DE BOER last night discussed his link with the Rangers job as he prepares to make a close-season return to coaching.

The former defender, who was brought to Ibrox by Alex McLeish in 2004, has been out of work since being sacked as coach by Inter Milan in November after only 85 days at the Serie A giants. Previously, the Dutchman had won four Eredivisie titles in a row with Ajax.

De Boer now wants to get back into the game and his name has been around the rumour mill for weeks in connection with Rangers. He was in London yesterday for a promotional event and to attend Arsenal’s Premier League game against Hull.

Before the match at the Emirates, De Boer said: ‘Rangers is a fantastic club and I’m sorry to see their current position. They are 27 points behind Celtic and the gap is massive at the moment. I want to see Rangers getting closer again and eventually becoming the No 1 club.

‘In terms of me being linked, it is very nice. But it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to say any more than that. I have rejected many jobs in the past few months since departing from Inter.

‘I’m taking it easy and my plan is to get back into coaching in the summer.’
