2006 SCOTLAND 20 FRANCE 16 One of Sean Lamont’s finest days in a Scotland jersey. In Frank Hadden’s first Six Nations match in charge, Lamont (below) scored a try in either half. The visitors put their hosts under more pressure as the second period wore on, but the Scottish defence was superb. Second-half tries by Julien Bonnaire and Sebastien Bruno brought the French close, but Scotland held firm. One of Lamont’s scores was particularly memorable, a driving maul drove the French pack back over 20 metres and the winger dived over.

1999 FRANCE 22 SCOTLAND 36

The last away win for the Scots in Paris. In an amazing first half of 55 points and eight tries, Scotland immediately took the game to France.

The hosts actually took the lead, but then Martin Leslie and Alan Tait scored tries and Scotland were in business.

The visiting Scottish fans could hardly believe it when Gregor Townsend (above) dived over for the third try and then Tait and Leslie both crossed again. It was 33-19 at half-time and the second half was much quieter. The next day, Scotland were crowned Five Nations champions. 1995 FRANCE 21 SCOTLAND 23 The day of the ‘Toony flip’ in the Parc des Princes. The Scots had not won in Paris for 26 years and seemed to be slipping to yet another close-fought defeat as the clock ticked down.

Then Gregor Townsend caught the French entirely off their guard with a great pass and unleashed Gavin Hastings for a clear run to the line.

Hastings’ try levelled the score at 21-21 and then the big man held his nerve to give Scotland the Five Nations victory.

Townsend also scored a try on the day, with Hastings kicking 13 points with the boot.

Greig Laidlaw kicked the visitors into a 6-0 half-time lead at the Stade de France, but the hosts pressure told eventually.

After the break the Scots, who had defended superbly in the first 40 minutes, started to fall off tackles and Wesley Fofana and Maxime Medard scored tries.

Their team also added 13 points with the boot. Tim Visser responded with a late breakaway try, but Scotland could not manage a third Six Nations win that year.
