Seeking a new Korea, Angus?
WHEN Western Isles MP Angus MacNeil last week compared the UK to North Korea, the loudest howls of indignation came not from Unionists but his fellow Nationalists. In the wake of Kim Jong-un’s missile test and the poisoning of the Dear Leader’s brother, he tweeted: ‘N Korean on TV proud of his “powerful” country with Nukes. Forget about health, education and food banks – N Korean not that different to some in UK.’ One of the politer responses from a pro-Indy tweeter asked if he was trolling or just ‘short of a jigsaw to finish’. STILL, more serious Nationalist minds than Mr MacNeil’s are prone to flights of fantasy – as Rural Economy Minister Fergus Ewing proved with his unusual ode to the haggis. Addressing the US haggis ban in an interview with Holyrood magazine, he said: ‘The haggis is a very friendly being, and doesn’t do any harm to anybody.’
Haggis roaming the countryside, unicorns as Scotland’s national animal – next we’ll be expected to believe in secret oil fields.
