Profits double at upmarket services firm
BRITAIN’S poshest motorway services firm, whose latest site was opened by Prince Charles, has seen its profit double in the past year as travellers lap up its home-made food.
Westmorland, the family-owned firm that runs Tebay Services on the M6 in Cumbria, and Gloucester Services on the M5, reported that its turnover was up from £72million to £93million while pre-tax profit grew from £3.6million to £6.1million.
Covering the period to July 3, 2016, they are the first annual results to include a full year of M5 operations. Northbound services opened in May 2014. Southbound services were opened in May 2015 by Prince Charles.
The results also include Cairn Lodge’s first full year of trading after Westmorland bought the services on the M74 in Scotland.
Chief executive Sarah Dunning said: ‘We have strengthened our offer, resulting in strong trading. Work with local and independent producers has remained a priority. Gloucester and Tebay have a network of 130 local producers within 30 miles of the services.’
