FORBES LEVELLER STOPS FALKIRK WRECKING FORTRESS CAPPIELOW

-

MORTON battled back to earn a share of the points and take another giant step towards remaining unbeaten at home for a calendar year, having last tasted defeat at Cappielow in March 2016.

Thomas O’Ware netted early for the hosts, but goals either side of the interval — a sensational James Craigen effort and an Aaron Muirhead penalty kick — put the Bairns in the driving seat.

However, Ross Forbes equalised to preserve his side’s home record.

In 13 minutes, Forbes fired in a long-range free-kick which picked out O’Ware at the back post and he leapt high to send a downward header flashing past keeper Danny Rogers.

Falkirk levelled in 44 minutes despite Jamie McDonagh’s attempts to rugby tackle Myles Hippolyte. The Falkirk midfielder still broke free to whip over a cross from the left for Craigen to hammer a superb half-volley high into the net from 22 yards.

Falkirk went in front in 50 minutes when Mark Russell barged Hippolyte to the ground inside the area and Muirhead cracked home from the resultant spot-kick.

Morton squared matters in 68 minutes when Forbes burst in from the left to run on to a Luke Donnelly pass and drill the ball low past Rogers.

Afterwards, Morton boss Jim Duffy said: ‘It was a good game and a lot of opportunities for both sides. Overall, it was a fair result.’

Falkirk boss Peter Houston agreed, saying: ‘It was probably a fair result, although when we went 2-1 up we had two glorious chances to finish it. It would have been harsh on Morton. Cappielow is not an easy place to come.’
