Bishopbriggs is talk of the music world... thanks to Bishop Briggs!

- By John Dingwall

IT is an unremarkable commuter town on the fringes of Scotland’s biggest city, but Bishopbriggs is being put on the musical map – by a singer from Los Angeles.

Up-and-coming star Sarah Grace McLaughlin, who has already supported Coldplay and had a string of hits in the online charts, records under the name Bishop Briggs.

The London-born 24-year-old, who grew up in Hong Kong, named herself after the Dunbartonshire home town of her father Charles and mother Moira, and recently visited relatives there.

‘They all think it is very funny that my name is Bishop Briggs,’ said the artist whose debut track Wild Horses reached No1 on the music streaming site Spotify’s US Viral chart with more than 15 million streams.

‘When I say the name anywhere other than Glasgow it is seen as something unique and obscure, but when you go to Bishopbriggs and say “I am Bishop Briggs” it is kind of funny.

‘I have seen people on Twitter from Bishopbriggs saying: “This can’t be real”.’

Her biggest fan has always been her aunt Anne-Marie, who lives in the town: ‘Having her support means everything.’
