Diana will be lesson to pupils
PRINCESS Diana will be used as a role model for pupils in lessons on how to overcome mental health problems.
Diana, who died almost 20 years ago, talked about her experience of depression, the eating disorder bulimia and self-harming in her 1995 Panorama interview.
The Princess is among a number of figures, including David Beckham and the late Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher, who are set to feature in the lessons about battling conditions. The aim of the scheme is to reduce the stigma surrounding such issues.
Beckham has spoken about his mania for neatness – saying he has ‘obsessive compulsive disorder’, while Miss Fisher struggled with depression and drug addiction.
The classes in mental health will be piloted in scores of schools in England by the Department for Education.
A spokesman said: ‘It is vital that all children and young people get the help and support that they need and deserve.’
