Pay to save our NHS
Beth Webb (Letter of the Week) suggests that a £10 charge for an appointment with a doctor be made. She thinks, however, that she might struggle to pay this with her multiple health problems.
A simple system whereby the total fee is capped at, say, £100 or £150 per year might suffice.
Society seems to tolerate a BBC licence fee of about that sum for even the poorest in our land.
As far as I know, Britain is the only country in the world where no payment is made for medical treatment. I think our health system is under so much pressure that it cannot endure. Dr David Reid, St Andrews, Fife.
