The beginning of the end for Berti Vogts as the 2006 World Cup campaign opened in limp fashion with a drab, goalless draw that could have been even worse. The German was gone six weeks later after defeat to Norway and a draw in Moldova.

October 2005, World Cup qualifier

Scotland, by now under the steady guidance of Walter Smith, rounded off a mixed campaign with a thoroughly convincing victory in Celje, with goals from Darren Fletcher, James McFadden and Paul Hartley offering hope for the future.

February 2012, friendly

Craig Levein handed out caps to Jamie Mackie and Craig Mackail-Smith, while today’s potential defensive duo Charlie Mulgrew and Russell Martin also made their first starts. Christophe Berra headed in an equalising goal in the first half and James Forrest took the plaudits after an eye-catching performance.
