The MoS seat-o-meter
THERESA May called the Election to win a big majority. Last week’s polls put the Tories on 44 per cent, meaning they could win their biggest share of the popular vote since Mrs Thatcher’s spectacular victory in 1983.
Our latest MoS seat-o-meter, put together with the help of John Curtice, professor of politics at Strathclyde University, shows that a 104-seat majority looks possible.
All polls published this week have put the Tories well ahead – on average by 18 points. This means the party could win its biggest share of the popular vote in 34 years.
Such a performance would be enough to secure the Prime Minister a three-figure majority, even though many Labour and SNP seats seem impregnably safe. An overall majority of 104 currently looks within her sights.
But as as our poll today shows, this is far from guaranteed: Survation’s figures would see her majority cut to 46. The poll shows Labour facing its worst defeat since the 1930s with Jeremy Corbyn winning just 188 seats.
