Make your own... SUGAR-FREE ‘NUTELLA’

- Frederick Faulkner

A jar of Nutella is sold every two seconds. A baby is born every eight seconds, by comparison, which makes this is an interesting factoid. The chocolate and hazelnut spread is clearly popular and has become something of an obsession for some people (Google ‘Nutella addiction’ and you’ll see what I mean). But, as tasty as it may be, it’s not the healthiest thing you can eat and is definitely not something to give the children all the time: one tablespoon contains 340 calories and is almost 60 per cent sugar.

If you want a chocolatey treat, why not make your own? This is creamy and delicious and made with stevia, a natural sweetener, so it’s completely sugar-free.

INGREDIENTS:

80g ground hazelnuts 20g cocoa powder 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 tbsp groundnut oil 1 tbsp coconut oil 50ml milk 4-5 tsp stevia powder Pinch of salt

DIRECTIONS:

❋ Put all the ingredients in a blender and blitz for about two minutes until you get a smooth paste. ❋ Serve on a piece of toasted sourdough bread.
