All roads lead to Hampden? Not if you’re stuck in motorway gridlock

-

HOW difficult it was to feel intoxicated by the big-game occasion yesterday when walking along the hard shoulder of the M74, taking Shanks’ Pony to Hampden after an hour and 20 minutes stuck in traffic.

Thank heavens the game, itself, was such a joy to watch.

That Aberdeen supporters, in particular, had to travel south for a 12.15pm kick-off was bad enough — never mind slamming head first into a gridlock just a few miles from the ground.

It was an experience that will have made anyone involved wonder whether Hampden is worth it any longer.

The ground, itself, is no great shakes, but you have a real problem when a game with a far from full house proves almost impossible to get to.
