CATHRO HAS CRAVING FOR BLAST OF THE GORGIE ROAR
IAN CATHRO revealed he’s been teased by Gorgie great John Robertson for not making Tynecastle tremor in triumph much during the old main stand’s final days overseeing Hearts in action.
The head coach was told by Robertson that, so accustomed was he to the distinctive noise from his playing days, he’d often hear the sound of the famous structure celebrating in his mind when going about his daily business.
The youngest manager in the division can perhaps only claim to have heard that in its full glory once so far during his reign — when Rangers were whipped 4-1 on a Wednesday night in February.
Cathro joked that a recording of the din might be an appropriate accompaniment to Hearts players walking out when the shiny new structure is in place next season, as he admitted: ‘I remember Robbo telling me — because he does tell stories — that he couldn’t get the noise of the timber being banged out of his head at times.
‘And he told me I’d only heard it once! I do remember it. So maybe we could get a recording of that. That would be nice. I can’t pretend that I’ve had too many big nights there but obviously it’s got stories.
‘I spent a bit of time in the museum with some of the guys who work there, just asking them questions. The interesting thing that day was just the amount of big nights they’ve had here. You don’t realise sometimes.
‘Their knowledge was unbelievable and I ended up in there for around 45 minutes talking about big European nights and all those things. It’s clear there have been amazing nights that have taken place that will stay with people their whole lives.’
