AS GOOD AS CELTIC DAYS, SAYS LENNON

- By Calum Crowe

NEIL LENNON insists that winning the Championship with Hibs feels as good as anything he achieved at Celtic.

The Easter Road boss watched his side bring down the curtain on their season yesterday with a 1-1 draw against St Mirren.

And with promotion already secured, Lennon will cherish this campaign just as dearly as any of the three Premiership titles he won as manager at Parkhead.

‘We all know Hibs shouldn’t be in the Championship — and especially not for three years,’ he said. ‘But we have been in it, so I’m proud of the players in how they dealt with it.

‘I didn’t know how I was going to feel after what I had done at Celtic but it felt every bit as good.

‘I was trying not to get emotional out there but I think the older you get the more it means to you.

‘When you play, you take it for granted at a big club like Celtic. As a manager at Celtic, your expectation also is to win the league.

‘Yeah, we (Hibs) went into the Championship as favourites but we certainly merited the champions tag. We’ve won the league handsomely.’

On the futures of both Jason Cummings and John McGinn, Lennon said: ‘The club is not in a position where we need to sell.

‘For either of them to leave, it is going to take a silly kind of offer that the club cannot refuse.’
