CLEMENT’S SWANS SOAR AND HAND THEIR SURVIVAL BID A MAJOR BOOST
SWANSEA last night moved out of the Premier League relegation zone following a hard-fought win over Everton.
Fernando Llorente scored the only goal of the game, out-jumping Phil Jagielka to head Jordan Ayew’s cross beyond away goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
Three points for Paul Clement’s side sees them leapfrog Hull City, with the Tigers slipping into the danger zone. And should Middlesbrough lose to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow night, Boro’s relegation would also be confirmed.
Clement, who took over at the Liberty Stadium in January with the club four points adrift at the foot of the table, said: ‘It is one of my proudest moments. What a fantastic performance.
‘It was so important we got that result after what happened at Hull.
‘We have hit some form both offensively and especially defensively.
‘We have played against good opposition and seven points from three games is a fantastic tally.
‘It gave us a lift before the game knowing that result had gone in our favour. We knew if we did something special, we could get out of the relegation zone.’
Opposing boss Ronald Koeman, whose side host Watford on Friday, added: ‘Seventh is a good position and next Friday is important to give the fans a win they deserve.’
